David Friedberg says this isn’t Suicidal Empathy, these are Armchair Do-Gooders.
He is referring to the French woman, who yelled “Do you know who I am? I am an activist who advocated for you all” as rioters destroyed her store.
FRIEDBERG: “The look on her face, which was like, ‘What the hell happened,’ is meant to be this moment that sort of captures the zeitgeist of what some people call Suicidal Empathy, but I think it’s much more about being an Armchair Do-Gooder.
An armchair do-gooder is someone who kind of sits at home in a nice home in the suburbs or wherever they live, and they say, ‘Let all the people in, take care of all the people.’ But as soon as the people show up to their front step and says, ‘Can I come and stay in your house?’ the answer is no, of course not.”
“Someone else has to deal with it. Someone else has to house you. Someone else has to feed you. Someone else has to give you a job.”
We’ve all seen this play out in the man-on-the-street interviews where people say they support policies that let immigrants in, but when it’s time to house them, suddenly they have no room.

There have been many names for this. Rob Henderson calls them luxury beliefs… Open borders is one of his own examples.
Everyone always seems surprised to find out their actions have consequences.

In early 2002, Elon was preparing to launch SpaceX and searching for the people who could help him build a rocket from scratch. One Sunday in January 2002, he walked into a friend's rented warehouse in Huntington Beach and found Tom Mueller holding an 80-pound rocket engine on his shoulder, trying to bolt it to a frame. It was the largest liquid-fuel engine any amateur had ever built, with 13,000 pounds of thrust, made in Tom's spare time.
Elon asked the main question “Could you build something bigger?”
The next Sunday Elon came to his house. It was Super Bowl Sunday; they watched maybe one play, because they were too busy sketching the first SpaceX rocket.
Tom became SpaceX employee #1, and the man who built engines on weekends went on to build Merlin, Kestrel and Draco.
Elon saw a person, not a résumé, someone who built rockets with his own hands simply because he loved them.

The guy running to represent Texas wants to dismantle capitalism and bury oil and gas.
When he was a state legislator in 2020, Talarico told Austin Sierra Club activists that capitalism works with white supremacy and climate change as 3 oppressive systems America must begin dismantling.
He said Texas leading in oil and gas was like being the leader in cassette tapes in the 1980s and the industry was not gonna last. Texas produces more than 40% of America’s crude oil, the backbone of the state.
After the recording surfaced this year via CNN’s KFile, his campaign calls him a proud capitalist and says the comments missed the mark.
Texans vote November 3. Don’t vote Talarico.
