Naval Ravikant once shared a story about Bill Gates shorting Tesla, a bet that could ultimately cost him more than $10 billion. Gates had taken a massive short position against Tesla, reportedly equivalent to roughly 1% of the company’s total shares. Naval suggested that if Tesla became the world’s most valuable company by a wide margin, the losses could be so enormous that even someone as wealthy as Bill Gates could face financial ruin. But what fascinated Naval wasn't the money. It was Elon Musk’s reaction. Musk was genuinely confused. How could someone who publicly championed clean energy financially bet against a company working to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy? To Gates, it was reportedly just a financial decision. But to Musk, it was something much deeper. According to Naval, that moment revealed something fundamental about Elon Musk. Elon Musk is not driven by money, wealth, or status. He is driven by a mission. The billions he earns are not trophies. They are tools. Tools to build rockets, revolutionize transportation, advance technology, and ultimately make humanity a multiplanetary civilization.

People keep saying there’s no aesthetic to the 2020’s but I’d firmly disagree. It was an honor to work with Cho Gi-Seok and his amazing team on my album visuals (one of the great innovators of the 2020's). We've been thinking about our work as 'sci fi thru the female gaze'.

Marc Andreessen revealed how Harvard Business School was built on a broken 1941 theory, and how it's now collapsing... Andreessen co-founded Netscape in 1994 and a16z in 2009. He has sat on Meta's board since 2008. He has spent 30 years backing founders and watching managerial CEOs lose to them. The pattern traces back to one book: James Burnham's The Machiavellians (1941). Burnham argued every great company had been founder-run. Henry Ford ran Ford. Bob Noyce ran Intel. Today, Elon Musk runs Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink. Then, he said, something broke. Between the 1880s and the 1920s, a new philosophy replaced the founder. It was called managerialism. The professional manager would now hold a portable skill, usable across any business. The consequences were: - Harvard Business School - Stanford Business School - Management as a universal skill - The 1970s conglomerate "That assumes the managers are going to do a good job," Andreessen says. For 30 years, they haven't. Managers can run something static, he says. Soup is soup. A bank is a bank. A car is a car. But when the industry changes, the manager freezes. Look at SpaceX. "Imagine being a professionally trained manager, trained at a top management school, working for a rocket launch company, competing with SpaceX." Then Elon's rockets started landing on their butt. "Your management skills ... what good are they at that point?" Andreessen's conclusion: "You're much more likely to build something important in the 21st century if you start with the founder and train them on management."

@zephyr_z9 Silly analysis. Robot RAM needs will exceed everything else on Earth, as you need the robots to be on physical substates in order to shape atoms. Super intelligence needs will vastly exceed that, but ~100% of SI will be deep space compute. Obviously.

Talked with someone in the know about SpaceX / xAI construction roadmap last week. I am now convinced they will single-handedly accelerate 10x the US infrastructure building capabilities, through aggressive vertical integration + applying Elon's algorithm. It just makes sense:
