Because witchcraft caused inflation.
(1) Federal Reserve created 5 trillion dollars from thin air.
(2) U.S. Treasury borrowed virtual money from Federal Reserve.
(3) Congress gave out borrowed money that wasn’t borrowed from anyone with existing money.

Test stand conditions are very controlled. Ground equipment can deliver precise flow rates / temperatures consistently. Flight conditions could vary, especially after a coast phase (or landing). This is part of what can separate an operational engine from a developmental engine
Elon Musk@elonmusk· Feb 28, 2023@Erdayastronaut Raptor start is now reliable on the test stand under most conditions.
Now we’re working on dynamically adapting the start sequence based on increasingly difficult propellant inlet pressures & temps.
Operating with low pressure, “warm” liquid oxygen is particularly important.

Tesla does INT8 inference. Way more efficient than FP16, but took us a lot of effort to overcome quantization errors.

Worth (re)watching this 5 March 2014 Senate hearing w/ @elonmusk where @ulalaunch attempted to rationalize why their costs were 4x higher than @SpaceX while intimating Falcon 9 rocket wasn't reliable enough for National Security launches.

After finally having some small grasp of the RS-25, I still can't even imagine Raptor. The timing has to be precise to thousands of a second in order to get everything right between the two systems. I just can't even imagine. Impressive engineering!

People who mock the decline of universities in the US have no idea how bad it really is. I'm on the inside, and I can tell you the next 20 years will be more wild than you can possibly imagine. The academy is currently peeling away from reality and will be fully detached soon.
